A decision has been made to assign one government official to each petrol pump across the country in order to strengthen monitoring and coordination in the fuel supply system.
This information was disclosed in a press release issued by the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources on Saturday.
The decision was taken at an online meeting held on Friday, chaired by Mohammad Saiful Islam, Secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division.
In the metropolitan areas of Dhaka and Chattogram, the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) will directly assign these officials. Outside these two metropolitan cities, in district and divisional towns, the respective Deputy Commissioners will appoint one government official for each petrol pump. At the উপজেলা (sub-district) level, Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) will assign officials under their jurisdiction to oversee individual fuel stations.
According to the directive, the assigned officials will carry out their duties in line with the procedures set by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division and BPC. They will also submit regular reports on daily operations and the overall fuel supply situation.
