Power and Gas Connections of 9 Factories Disconnected for Environmental Pollution

Dhaka, 30 July 2025:

The Department of Environment has disconnected the electricity and gas connections of nine factories in Gazipur for polluting the environment. These factories were operating without Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs), while some had ETPs but were not operating them. As a result, they were reportedly polluting nearby rivers and canals, according to the Department.

The factories affected are:

• Lee Novotex (Pvt.) Ltd., Board Bazar (electricity and gas disconnected)

• Bismillah Enterprise, South Khailkur (electricity disconnected)

• Padma Denim Technology, Shilmun (electricity and gas disconnected)

• Gazi Thread & Accessories, BSCIC, Tongi (electricity and gas disconnected)

• Taha Fashion, Nodi Bandar Road, Tongi (electricity disconnected)

• Mohammadiya Yarn Trading, Mirashpara, Tongi

• Summit Washing, Morkun, Tongi

• Dhaka Wash Ltd., BSCIC, Tongi

• Lam Mim Fashion, Shilmun, Tongi

The enforcement drive was led by Executive Magistrate of the Department of Environment, Abdullah Al Mamun. He was assisted by Assistant Director Mizanur Rahman, Research Officer Mokbul Hossain, and Inspector Sanjit Biswas. Officials from DESCO East Power Division, Gazipur Rural Electrification Board, and Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company provided full support during the operation.

The Department of Environment stated that the government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy for environmental protection. Similar operations will continue regularly against illegal polluting factories.
