Quake shakes Bangladesh

A 5.3 magnitude earthquake shook the capital and other parts of the country on Wednesday.

The epicentre of the quake to Saptagram, Assam, India, 293 kilometres north of BMD Seismic Centre at Agargaon, said Mominul Islam, a meteorologist of Dhaka met office.

The tremor was felt at 10:50 am, he added.

However, the US Geological Survey traced the epicentre of the quake to 9km off from Saptagram. They measured the earthquake at 5.6 magnitude.

According to the scale of seismologists, an earthquake ranging from 5 to 5.9 is considered a moderate earthquake which can cause slight damage to buildings.

At least 25 people were injured while getting down from several buildings in Uttar EPZ area of Sadar upazila in the morning, reports UNB Nilphamari correspondent.
