Beximco Power is likely to install a 200 MW solar power plant in Gaibandha as a joint venture. They have also promised to build such power plants in the future as well.
Two deals were signed at the Bidyut Bhaban on today regarding the installation of the solar power plant.
The power generated from the solar power plant will be delivered to the national grid directly. The plant is expected to begin generation within 18 months. The price of generation of per unit of power from this power plant is estimated at 15 cents, which will be bought by the Power Development Board (PDB).
Beximco and Chinese firm TBEA Xinjiang Sunoasis will be jointly investing in this project, where the share of Beximco will 80 percent and rest 20 percent will be of TBEA. The two partner company has formed a new company named Teesta solar limited which will materialize the project. In fact, PDB has already signed purchase and implementation deal with Teesta.
PDB secretary Mina Masuduzzaman and managing director of Tista Solar Limited Rafiqul Islam signed on behalf of their respective organizations at the power purchase deal. On the other hand, joint secretary Sheikh Fazlul Amin and PGCB secretary Md. Ashraf Hossain and Teesta Managing Director signed the at the implementation deal.
The state minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid addressed at the deals signing ceremony. He said that, a new project is likely to begin very soon; under the project a ‘sun-village’ will be developed, where all the energy resources will be renewable. He added that, within the year of 2021, Bangladesh will generate 24,000 MW of power. Within the next one year 2,500 more MW of power will be added to the national grid, he informed.
Among others, power division secretary Dr. Ahmed Kaykaus, Beximco group chairman Sohel Rahman, vice chairman Salman F Rahman, TBEA chief executive officer Anthony were present at the deal signing ceremony.
Salman F Rahman said that, the power plant will hopefully be operational before its deadline. The financial deal will be finalized within next month and already 1,000 acres of land is acquired in Gaibandha to install this power plant.
Dr. Ahmed Kaykaus said that, initiatives are taken to install more power plants having a total capacity of 3,000 MW of power. We couldn’t provide the required power in the last year. But, the problem will soon be resolved, he added.
