Children join global climate strike in Dhaka

Thousands of children from different educational institutions staged a rally at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital on Friday, urging the world leaders to act against climate change.
They also formed a human chain and took out a procession there expressing solidarity with the global climate strike in response to the call of Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg.
Save the Children in Bangladesh and Green Saver Association jointly organized the rally where general students, including Rover Scouts, Girl Guides, school cabinet members and community volunteers joined demanding quick actions against climate change.
Addressing the rally, Ahsan Rony, president of Green Saver, declared “climate emergency in Bangladesh” and demanded climate justice from the countries responsible for the climate change.
The participants also urged the people to be aware of the adverse impact of climate change.
Greta Thunberg, who is a 16 years old girl, stood outside the Swedish parliament in August 2018 holding a placard that read “School strike of the climate.” Later, Greta started taking the movement on various platforms and named it ‘Friday for Future.”
Greta called on children around the world to participate in the movement. By ensuring their participation, children around the world are calling on people from all levels, including their network, family members, teachers, professionals and others, to participate in the movement.
The ‘Friday for the Future’ platform is working to raise awareness about the impact of climate change among children around the world and to highlight the strategic position of countries affected by climate change.
The movement is currently spreading among the children around the world and even at the policy level of the countries those are at most risk for the climate change.
As part of the global movement, the children gathered at the Manik Mia Avenue holding different kinds of colorful banners, festoons and placards with the slogan “Our world, our future. Plant trees and save the world.”
Meanwhile, vast crowds of children skipped school Friday to join
a global strike against climate change, heeding the rallying cry of teen activist Greta Thunberg and demanding adults act to stop environmental disaster.
It was expected to be the biggest protest ever against the threat posed to the planet by climate change.
Yelling slogans and waving placards, children and adults across Asia and the Pacific kicked off the protest, which spread later to Africa and Europe with huge crowds filling the streets.
