Bangladesh–US Trade Agreement Signed: Duty-Free Facility for Some Garment Exports

Staff Correspondent, Dhaka (Monday, 9 February 2026)

Bangladesh has signed a trade agreement with the United States. Under the agreement, the reciprocal tariff rate on Bangladeshi products in the US market has been reduced from 20 percent to 19 percent. At the same time, duties have been completely withdrawn on garment exports made with cotton and synthetic fibers imported from the United States.
The Ministry of Commerce said the agreement was signed online, with Bangladesh represented by Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin and the United States by its Trade Representative, Jamieson Greer. Bangladesh entered into the agreement with the aim of reducing its trade deficit with the United States.
At the signing ceremony, the Commerce Adviser thanked US President Donald Trump, calling it a historic moment for Bangladesh.
Lutfey Siddiqi, the Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant on International Affairs, commented that the agreement would support the expansion of Bangladesh’s industrial sector. He also expressed hope that it would help reduce the trade deficit between the two countries.
