The National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Mineral Resources, Power
and Ports announced to hold a countrywide sit-in program on 20th
August to repeal the project of Rampal.
Prof Anu Mohammad, the National Committee member secretary made the
call for this sit-in program in a protest rally held in front of the
National Press club on Saturday.
Prof Anu remarked that, there is always an alternative to installing a
particular Power Plant but, Sundarbans has no substitute of itself.
So, the government must rule out installing the Rampal Power Plant,
which may cause irrecoverable damages to the great Sundarbans, he
added. He urged all the countrymen to stand against the power plant
project.
As per the declaration from the leaders of the national committee, the
committee would arrange a sit-in program countrywide and a day-long
sit-in program at the Central Shaheed Minar, both on 20th of August.
Besides, the committee is planning to arrange protest rallies
throughout the country especially in the coastal areas in this month
of August.
