The government would make an arrangement for providing 2.0 per cent of the country’s total gas and electricity to new industrial units through the Board of Investment (BoI) and it would come into effect from the next fiscal year, Finance Minister AMA Muhith said Wednesday.
Besides, the government was working on empowerment of the local governments so that they could work more effectively and independently, Mr. Muhith said.
The minister was talking to newsmen after his pre-budget meeting with economists at the state guest house Padma on Wednesday evening.
About the discussion of the meeting, Mr. Muhith informed the media men that one of the economists had observed that the current strategy to keep the exchange rate of Bangladesh Taka (BDT) against the US dollar stable was not proper as the rate should be determined by the market forces.
