The entire allotment of the revised budget for Fiscal Year 2015-16 was successfully utilized, claimed the Power Division in a meeting held on Saturday at Bidyut Bhaban. The division claimed it in a situation where, as reported by ADP (Annual Development Program) report as up to May, 2016 the division could hardly manage to spend around half of the allotted amount. It suggests that, out of the total budget of Tk 154.77 billion, around half of this amount were spent within just one-two month.
The state minister for Power Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid criticized this kind of untimely implementation of projects of the country’s power sector while presiding over the meeting. He urged to implement all the projects of the power sector within the due timeframe. He said that, any delay in project implementation would be considered as a ‘disqualification’ of the project directors.
To maintain accountability from now on he asked the project directors to submit progress reports on their respective projects every three months to ensure timely implementation of power and energy-related programmes.
The government allocated another Tk 160.40 billion as ADP allocation for the Fiscal Year of 2016-17.
Power secretary Monowar Islam, Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) chairman Md Shamsul Hasan Miah and director general of Power Cell Mohammad Hossain also spoke on the occasion.
