BPC Will Not Import Oil For Power Plants

Government takes initiatives to change the existing fuel import
policy. According to the decision, import of Furnace oil for power
plants will be left to the private sectors.

State minister of power energy and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid
said, “if private sectors want, the approvals will be provided
gradually to the rental and quick rental power plants of private
sector. Beside this, in next year BPC will import 20-25 per cent oil by open tender for
experiment whether there is any benefit.”
BPC opposes the decision to importing furnace oil by privet
sectors. Because of increased use of oil in power sector, BPC
increases their stoke ability by huge money in recent years. BPC also
Build network to provide oil in power plants on time. So, there is no
need to give this responsibility to the private sectors.
7 private Rental and quick rental power plant import furnace oil for
their own with the approval of BPC. BPC imports furnace oil and fuel
for the Rest government and non-government power plants.
As global oil prices fall, cost of per unit is 7-8tk by using private
sector’s imported oil. But, by using BPC imported government-set
priced oil the cost is 14-16tk.
Energy Division informs, to eliminate this imbalance, the decision has
been taken to leave the private sector to import oil furnace. If
owners are interested BPC do not have to import furnace oil by next
July. By this, a government purchase cabinet refused to import 4 lack
80 thousand metric ton furnace oil in this month.
BPC officers said, “Every year in November BPC fixes
the demand for next one year. After that BPC imports oil in December
and July by the approval of the cabinet.”
