Cabinet Purchase Committee on Wednesday approved proposals for some 7 power plants having total capacity of generating 1114MW.
Of them, six will be set up in private sector while one in public sector.
Two other projects also received nod of the committee in a meeting held with Finance Minister AMA Muhith in the chair.
As per the approval, United Enterprise and Company will set up a 300MW furnace oil-fired plant at Anwara of Chittagong. The state-owned Power Development Board (PDB) will purchase electricity from the project for next 15 years at a rate of Tk 14.70 per kilowatt hour (each unit).
Acorn Infrastructure Services Ltd will set up a 100MW plant at Julda in Chittagong while Precision Energy Ltd will set up a similar capacity plant at Patiya in Chittagong. The PDB will purchase electricity from both the furnace oil-fired plants at the same rate of Tk 14.70 per kilowatt hour for the same tenure of 15 years.
Indian company Shapoorji Pallonji Infrastructure Capital Company will set up a 225MW combined cycle dual-fuel (Gas-Diesel) power plant at Bhola.
The PDB will buy power from the plant for next 22 years. The tariff of the plant was fixed at Tk 3.01 per unit for gas-operation while Tk 13.567 for diesel-fired operation.
The cabinet body approved a proposal to change the name of the lead and operating member of 149MW dual-fuel plant in Kaliakoir in Gazipur.
Summit Power Ltd will now implement the plant instead of a Sri Lankan sponsor.
A joint venture proposal of Intraco CNG Limited and Juli New Energy Company received the cabinet body approval for setting up a 30MW (AC) solar power plant. The PDB will buy power from the plant at Tk 12.80 per kilowatt hour.
The Cabinet body approved the PDB`s tender proposal to award a contract to re-powering of the 4th unit of Ghorasal Power plant having 210 MW capacity.
The joint venture of China Energy Engineering and Guangdong Power Engineering will do the re-powering job at a contract value of Tk 1544.58 crore.
A proposal of the Industries Ministry received approval of the committee to appoint its Chinese contractor Complant Ltd as operation and maintenance assistance service provider for Shahjalal Fertiliser Factory for next one year.
Another proposal of Dhaka WASA received approval for appointing Mott McDonald’s as consultant for its Dhaka Environmentally Sustainable Water Supply Project at a Tk 63.84 crore for management, design and supervision of the project.
