Directive to Ensure Power Supply at Polling Stations: Target Set for Maximum Power Generation

Staff crosspondent, Dhaka (Tuesday, February 11, 2026):

Instructions have been issued to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply at all polling stations for the 13th National Parliamentary Election and the referendum. In line with the directive, the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) has taken preparations to achieve maximum power generation.

BPDB Chairman Engineer Md. Rezaul Karim told Energy Bangla that there will be no problem in electricity supply. “There is currently no shortage. All necessary preparations have been taken to generate the required electricity. As industrial establishments, business entities, and shops will remain closed, overall power demand will be lower. Even then, preparations have been made to generate between 9,000 and 12,000 megawatts of electricity. Adequate stocks of coal and oil have also been ensured,” he said.

All gas-, oil-, and coal-fired power plants will remain operational. If necessary, additional electricity will be generated from oil-fired power plants.

Ahead of the election, electricity imports from India’s Adani have already been increased. On Tuesday, Adani supplied 1,400 megawatts of electricity, compared to the previous 800 megawatts. Adequate coal stocks have also been secured at Rampal, Matarbari, and other power plants.

In areas where direct grid connection is not possible, instructions have been given to arrange generators or alternative power supply systems. All mobile generators have been asked to remain ready.

To ensure uninterrupted electricity supply, round-the-clock monitoring will be conducted at both central and local levels. Central and local control centers have been established. Necessary measures have been taken in coordination with Deputy Commissioners in each district to ensure power supply. Alongside BPDB, the Rural Electrification Board (REB) will also maintain constant monitoring. All distribution companies will coordinate with district administrations in their respective areas to ensure power supply. The ministry and relevant departments and agencies will oversee overall coordination.

Recently, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, in an inter-ministerial meeting, directed that immediate alternative power supply arrangements be kept ready in areas where load shedding is likely.
