Energy and Mineral Resources Division Secretary Abu Bakar Siddique has died while under treatment at a Dhaka hospital.
Officials said that the 58-year-old official breathed his last at the Square Hospital in the capital.
“He had been diagnosed with cancer and suffered a cardiac arrest few days ago,” he said.
A management graduate from the Dhaka University, Siddique joined the Bangladesh Civil Service in 1982 in the administrative cadre.
He was appointed as the energy secretary in July 2014.
Prior to that he had served in different departments. He was also the chairman of the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation.
