Furnace Oil Price Reduced by Tk 15.90 per Litre: Power Generation Costs to Decrease

Staff Correspondent, Dhaka (Sunday, February 22, 2026)

The price of furnace oil has been reduced by Tk 15.90 per litre and has been fixed at Tk 70.10 per litre. The new price will come into effect from February 23. Officials concerned said that this reduction is expected to lower the cost of electricity generation.

The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) announced the new price on Sunday.

BERC stated that the price has been re-determined under its legal authority following a detailed review and analysis of all proposals and opinions received during the public hearing held on January 29 this year.

The marketing margin for furnace oil has been set at 72 paisa per litre for Padma Oil Company, Meghna Petroleum, Jamuna Oil Company, and Standard Asiatic Oil Company. In addition, the combined transportation charge has been fixed at Tk 1.20 per litre.

The consumer-level price of furnace oil has been re-determined in accordance with Sections 34(4) and 34(6) of the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission Act, 2003.
