The state minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid informed that, a total of 43 ministries and semi-government organisations have around 1 thousand, 435 crore and 31 lac taka due in electricity bills till 31st of may of this year.
Nasrul Hamid has disclosed this information in an answer to a question asked by a parliament member named Md. Nazrul Islam Babu in a paliament session that held on Thursday.
Of the total dues, different government offices owed Tk 668 crore while semi-government and non-government bodies owed Tk 766 crore, he said. The food and disaster management ministry tops the list with outstanding bills of Tk 97 crore. Of the others, housing and public works ministry owes Tk 95.30 crore, home ministry owes Tk 64.53 crore, religious affairs ministry Tk 57.32 crore, health and family welfare ministry Tk 46.96 crore, education ministry Tk 37.66 crore and defence ministry Tk 21.75 crore.
The state minister informed that, his ministry is disconnecting electricity lines of the defaulters. He also said that, the country is currently generating 10,500 to 11,000 MW of power on an average at the evening times and around 92 percent people are currently enjoying electricity services.
