Sufferings will be over for the rural customers. From now, REB will
buy transformers for their customers. Rural Electrification Board will
provide this service.
Recently, Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) changed their
policy. In Recent past, customers have to buy transformers for their
own if the transformer theft or damaged.
A large number of customer use one transformer. If transformer damaged
or theft all users or the hole area are in blackout. They can’t get
electricity without buying a new transformer. Even submitting the
money they have to wait for a long to get the connection. Now, REB
will give transformers to the customers. So the Sufferings of the
customers is going to over by changing the policy.
Four other distribution company buys transformers for their customers.
Only REB has the deferent rules. This was a discrimination between
city and rural customers. Distribution companies of the city buy and
install transformers for their customers whether REB don’t do the
same.
BREB chairman B.G Moin Uddin said, REB changed the policy. If the
transformer damaged customers have to buy. Now, customers don’t have
to do this. REB will buy transformers for them.
He added, REB is trying to less the burning of transformers. Overload
is one of the reason for burning. Customers increase their consumption
rate without informing related officials. Transformers can’t take
those extra load.
REB will buy 70,000 new transformers to run this new policy and to
install high-capacity transformers instead of existed low-capacity
transformers. Those transforms will be installed within next 2 year.
Power department source informs, it will need some tk 812cr 64 lack to
install those 70,000 transformers. Finance ministry will provide tk
764cr 95 lack and REB the rest tk 74cr 69 lakh. This project will over
in 2017.
Those new transformers will be in various capacity. REB will buy 4,000
transformers of 10KVA capacity; 9000 of 15KVA; 2,230 of 25KVA; 10,000
of 37.5KVA; 5,000 of 50KVA, 2,000 of 75KVA; 5,000 of 100KVA and 2000
of 200KVA.
According to power department, country has 76,483 overloaded
transformers. From those REB has the most.
Transformers are burning because of overload. Sometimes those are
stolen. Heavy transformers are being stolen front of the people. They
can’t understand whether those people are from REB or not. There is a
collusion some REB related person knows about the theft. On the other
hand, because of longstanding and other accident almost 1000
transformers burns in a month. Some transformers damaged because of
mismanagement and irregularities in power supply. Some damaged because
of over power supply. Though the customers are not responsible for
those they have to pay for it. And rural customers are only the
sufferer.
