Md. Latif Khan,Vice-Chairman, Summit Power Ltd., has been officially elected as the new
President of “Bangladesh Independent Power Producers’ Association (BIPPA),” an organizing
body for the private power producers in the power sector. Mr. Khan was elected as President for
the next two years on Monday evening through an election conducted by the members of the
Board of Directors at the association’s office. Mr. K.M. Rezaul Hasanat, Mr. Feroz Alam and
Mr. Gulam Rabbani Chowdhury were also elected as Vice-Presidents of the association, and 7
Directors were also elected.
Formed in June of this year, BIPPA will continue to work with the 34 Independent Power
Producers (IPPs) of the country to protect, promote, represent and safeguard their occupation,
trade and business. BIPPA is committed to the undisrupted production and distribution of
electricity, which is an essential service for the country’s progress and development.
The organization’s newly elected President Md. Latif Khan received a Bachelor’s degree in
Public Administration from the University of Dhaka, before travelling to the United States for
further higher studies. After completing his studies, Mr. Khan has worked extensively in the
financial sector for about fifteen years. He gathered a great deal of experience by working with
esteemed financial institutions such as Prudential Insurance of America and Wells Fargo Bank in
California. In 1997, Mr. Khan returned to Bangladesh and joined Summit Group as a Director.
Mr. Khan is a distinguished pioneer of the power sector, and the Board of Directors hopes that
his leadership will take the organization forward, leading to BIPPA having a significant role in
the country’s overall development.
