The state minister for power, energy and mineral resources Nasrul
Hamid said that, the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) will be
readjusted within the next two months. He said so in the inauguration
program of the 4th International LPG Summit-2017 that is being
observed at the city’s international Convention City, Bashundhara.
The government is on its way of making a new policy which will be
taken soon to take control over the market of LPG, the state minister
said. The policy will help to make balance in the prices of LPG from
different companies. The new policy is about to be finalised within
the next 2 months, he added. Using the natural gas in household and
transportation is causing about 20 percent of gas to be spoiled. LPG
as a substitute for cooking, may save the loss incurring.
The state minister said that the country’s economy is flourishing and
the demand for energy is also increasing at the same rate. But, the
underground reservoirs of gas are depleting where a lot of industries
and sectors are solely dependable on gas. So, to secure the future of
the country’s energy demand, we need to think about alternatives to
the natural gas, he stated.
Nasrul Hamid also stated that, Seventy percent of the existing
household gas connections will be replaced with LPG over the next two
years.
Salman F Rahman, the president of Bangladesh LPG association said
that, the government is trying to popularise the use of Liquefied
Petroleum Gas (LPG) through raising the price of pipelined gas. It’s a
rational idea, as the reserve of our natural gas is depleting rapidly,
he added.
