The Institute of Energy (IE), University of Dhaka and Bangladesh Solar Energy Society (BSES) jointly organized a three-day exhibition on renewable energy which was launched today at the Energy Park and Mokarram Bhaban of Dhaka University with the Theme of the program is ‘Renewable Energy Path to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG): Bangladesh Context’.
Various renewable energy products and polices were presented in the program such as solar thermal applications, solar photovoltaic, wind energy, bio-energy, hydro energy, oceanography, power conditioning, RET devices, improved cook stove, renewable energy policy, west management for energy, low energy architecture, energy storage, solar energy in textile engineering, green technology etc.
State Minister, Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid was present as chief guest. Advisor of BSES Professor Dr. Muhtasham Hussain was the special guest of honour. Country Director of Practical Action Bangladesh Ms. Hasin Jahan; Chairman of SREDA Mr. Md. Anwarul Islam Sikder, ndc, was the special guest. The program was chaired by the vice chancellor, University of Dhaka, Professor Dr. A A M S Arefin Siddique.
Ms. Hasin Jahan said, almost 1 billion people are out of electricity coverage because we are not utilizing our natural resources. We want to serve our inventions and developments on renewable energy at commons doorstep.
Nasrul Hamid said, by using 4.4 billion solar home system, we are the largest solar home system user at the moment.
Mr. Hamid added, though the oil and coal price are collapsed in world market we want to emphasize on renewable and sustainable energy. Already we made a master plan which is to add 10 percent power to national grid from renewable energy. He suggest IDCOL, SREDA and Institute of Energy (IE) can work jointly.
Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA), Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL), GIZ, Practical Action, BCSIR, Rahim Afroz, Bestway Powertech, Energypac, Grameen Shakti, GTS Group, LIC solar, Intraco are participating in the exhibition.
