The National Committee to Protect Sundarbans has raised its voice for
once more to scrap the Rampal coal-fired power plant.
Sultana Kamal, the conveyor of the National Committee to Protect
Sundarbans once again demanded such cancellation of the Rampal project
on Today in a press conference held at the National Press club.
Sultana Kamal said that, Rampal would be the most detrimental project
for the ecosystem for the Sundarbans and the economy of our country.
Sundarbans acts as the ‘natural shield’ which protects the country
from various natural calamities, she added. “We cannot afford to lose
the great Sundarbans for the sake of a low-quality coal-fired power
plant like Rampal”, she asserted. To face the challenges of climate
change, we need to protect our Sundarbans, she added.

International Bangladesh (TIB) said that, the UN secretary general
recently ratified the assessment report prepared by the UNESCO
delegation. The report says that the Rampal project must be relocated
otherwise it may harm the Sundarbans, he added. UN accepted that
report because; the report has a strong scientific background.

professor M M Akash, Professor Bodrul Alam, CPB leader Ruhin Hossian
Prince, member secretary of the national committee Abdul Matin were
