Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged to complete all the ongoing projects related to Fuel and Power sector as soon as possible. The prime minister was informed about different ongoing activities of Fuel and Power sector in a meeting that took place in her Office on Sunday. She then emphasized on the completion of all the projects in due time.
According to that meeting sources, Power secretary Monwar Islam and Energy secretary Dr. Nazimuddin Chaudhury has demonstrated reports on the current status of their respective divisions before the Prime Minister.
Among others, Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury (BB), Prime Minister’s adviser on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Nasrul Hamid, State Minister for Energy and Power, Abul Kalam Azad, Principal Secretary of the Prime Minister, Shamsul Hasan Mia, Chairman of Power Development Board (PDB), Brig Gen (rtd) Nazrul Hasan, Managing Director of Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC) were present at that meeting.
The Prime Minister was informed about different projects including installing large coal-fired Power Plants, undergrounding Dhaka’s Power transmission line, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) import, Gas exploration in land and sea etc. She was also informed about the deal signing of Rampal’s Power Plant and ongoing activities of different Power Plants including Matarbari’s Power plant. The prime minister ordered to complete all these projects in due time.
The Prime Minister has given her instruction to manage the large coal-fired Power Plants coming in production in scheduled time. She said, we want electricity to make available in each and everybody’s home within 2021 and that’s why Power projects need to be completed on scheduled time.
Reports from Power division claimed that, a deal is signed with China on installing Payra’s coal-fired Power Plant. This Power Plant will be in operation at April, 2019.
In addition, DPDC has expressed their willingness to be full-featured in that meeting. Therefore, some commercial buildings will be built and it will enhance the beauty of city as well as the income of DPDC. These buildings will be built on DPDC’s own land property including in Dhanmondi, Moghbazar, Tejgaon, Kakrail, Motijheel and Hatirjheel. DPDC will use the floor spaces for their own office and for rent indeed. The substations will be made on ground of each of the buildings.
Managing Director of DPDC has confirmed Energy Bangla that, the Prime Minister was informed about the current programs and status of Energy and Power sector and she expressed her satisfaction.
It is apprised by the Fuel department that, Installing LNG terminal is among Prime Ministers Fast-Track project. A draft deal is signed at Thursday on installing LNG terminal. Final deal will be signed as soon as possible. Transporting oil through pipe-line in the sea, establishing single point mooring were among the topics indeed that were discussed in the meeting. In the meeting it was discussed that, blocks numbered 12, 16 and 21 in the sea will be given for exploration according to a special act. Already discussions are going on with different interested companies regarding this oil-gas exploration in sea blocks. In addition, the prime minister urged to form new PSC.
In the meeting there was discussions on the matters related to Gas exploration in land. In addition, the prime minister was informed that Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (BAPEX) was about to drill 108 wells in land
