The glitch occurred while Sheikh Hasina was speaking at a discussion, titled ‘Epoch Making Speech: Preparation and Impact’, at Krishibid Institution Bangladesh at the capital’s Farmgate on Saturday afternoon.
She began speaking at around 6pm. Fifteen minutes into her speech, the lights went off in the auditorium, to last 25 seconds.
As she commenced speaking again after power was restored, the prime minister quipped, “This is the situation even after the production of 14,600 megawatts of electricity.”
Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC) is in charge of electricity supply in the area.
The company’s Managing Director Nazrul Hasan said, “Krishibid Institution was running on the power of its generator.”
“A mechanical error stopped the generator which led to the power cut. Within 10 seconds, DPDC restored the power supply.”
