Six of the Upazillas of the country is about to be 100 percent
electrified. The Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the 100
percent electrification process of these six Upazilas through a video
conference at 10 AM on August 13th.
The state minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul
Hamid confirmed about the program in a press briefing held at his
ministry office on Thursday.
The Upazilas are Tungipara of Gopalganj, Bandar of Narayanganj, Palash
of Narsingdi, Boalkhali of Chittagong, Adarsa Sadar of Comilla and
Bholahat of Chapainawabganj district. A total number of 2 lacs 38
thousand 650 subscribers of the 6 Upazilas are brought under the
service of electrification. Rural Electrification Board (REB) provided
the 3,527-kilometre transmission line of the six Upazilas at a cost of
Taka 535 crore.
Nasrul Hamid said that, the government is willing to make electricity
available to every household within 2021. To implement the proclaimed
‘Vision-2021’, REB has the plan to ensure electricity for 90 percent
of families of the country within 2018.
Already REB has built atleast 2 lac 89 thousand Km of transmission
line in 77 of different Palli Biddyut Samity (PBS) areas. Hence, it
benefited 1 crore and 36 lac of subscribers of 43 Upazilas and 52,700
villages. Nasrul Hamid said that, 95 Upazilas will be brought under
100 percent electrification during the financial year 2016-2017 due to
the bold and dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. 465
Upazilas are going to be electrified within the year of 2017, he
added.
