Bangladesh Power Development Boar (BPDB) signed 333 Million USD financial agreement tuesday with the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) bank at Bidyut Bhaban. According to the agreement HSBC will arrange the amount to implement the project titled “Re-Powering Project of Ghorashal 3rd Unit”. BPDB have to repay the amount within 10 year.

Zahurul Huque, Secretary of BPDB, and Mr. Arnaud Cachard, Regional Head of Export Finance Asia Pacific, Signed the agreement on behalf of their respective side with the presence of Energy advisor to the Prime Minister Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, Power Secretary Monowarul Islam Md Shamsul Hasan Miah, BPDB chairman, Francois de Maricourt, CEO of HSBC and other related officer.
Consortium of Alstom (Switzerland) and China National Machinery Imp. & Exp. Corporation will complete the project within 3 year. The Consortium will manage the engineering, procurement and construction issues.
At the initial capacity of the Ghorashal Power Plant was 210 Megawatt (MW) presently which is 170 MW. After completing the project the capacity would be 416.3 MW by using the same amount of gas.
During the signing ceremony Monowarul Islam said, we hope the project will end on time. He added, this is a positive sign for us that the forging investors are showing their interest to invest countries power sector.
Mr. Arnaud Cachard said, “We are feeling proud to be an investor in this kind of projects. I think this is the only beginning”. He hops that the project will be done on time.
The power plant will be built as per the government move to enhance electricity generation to 20,000 MW by 2021.
