Petrol pump owners are set to call a strike to their several demands, including a hike in commission on the sales of fuel oil.
Secretary General of Bangladesh Petrol Pump Owners told press conference on Wednesday, “We’ve long been demanding an increase in commission on sales of petroleum, but there’s no outcome. So, we’re compelled to announce the programme.
He said that as per the pledges, the commission on sales of fuel oil is usually raised every time after fresh increase on petroleum oil prices. But the government did not keep its word. So, the petrol pump owners have no alternative but to announce a movement and call a strike.
There are some 4,000 petrol pumps across the country. They buy petroleum from the three state-owned oil companies and supply it in the market.
According to the figures available from the BPC, in 1990 the oil companies and distributors were given commissions at almost the same rate of Tk 0.14 to Tk 0.24 per litre of kerosene, petrol and diesel.
