Tawfique-e-Elahi Appointed Energy Advisor At BD Mission To UN

Dr. Tawfique-e-Elahi Choudhury Bir Bikram, who is currently acting as
the Energy Advisor to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh has been
appointed as the Energy Advisor at the Bangladesh Permanent mission to
the United Nations.

The Cabinet Division on Wednesday made him the advisor of the UN
mission for a term of 6 months by declaring an ordinance. Dr.
Choudhury will be acting as the Advisor to the PM essentially, while
the role of advisor in UN mission will be his additional duty.

He has been involved in Bangladesh’s liberation war and for his
contribution; he has earned Bir Bikram title from the nation

Dr. Choudhury was born in 1945. He joined the Civil Service of
Pakistan (CSP) in 1968 after a two-year stint as Lecturer in Economics
in the University of Dhaka.

In 1971, as the Sub-Divisional Officer of Meherpur, Kushtia, he joined
the liberation war and was commissioned in the Bangladesh Armed
Forces. He was decorated for gallantry as Bir Bikrom and was one of
the chief organizers of the swearing in ceremony of the first
Government of Bangladesh in Mujibnagar, Meherpur on 17 April 1971.

Dr. Choudhury was appointed as the Advisor to the Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina in January 2009 with the rank and status of a Minister.
He advises on energy, power and mineral resources. Later he was
appointed in the same post at the second term of the Awami League
Government in 2014
