Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company limited, one of the state owned distribution authority recently has disconnected a total of 66 thousands 904 illegal gas connections including 75.29 kilometers of gas line, one industrial and four commercial illegal gas connections.
Titas said that, it has started conducting drive to snap the illegal connections and eventually cut them off. A mobile court headed by an executive Magistrate conducts the drive.
The mobile court fined a few hotels and restaurants and disconnected their illegal gas connections at Hotapara area of Gazipur on 29th December. Mohammadi hotel was fined 1 lac and Kalam Mia Hotel was fined 20 thousands taka instantly by the mobile court
Titas has formed a task force to detect and eliminate the illegal connections since 2014. According to a report of Titas, the task force has eliminated a total of 820 kilometers of illegal lines since then. According to the records of 2013, Titas had at least 4.5 lacs of illegal connections then.
