Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company is investigating whether any leakage in gas line caused the fire that burnt down Tampaco Foils factory in Tongi, killing at least 34.
Titas Gas Managing Director Mir Moshiur Rahman said an investigation committee was formed on Thursday, five days into the incident.
The state-owned company’s General Manager for Dhaka Metro North, Rana Akbar Haider, is heading the three-member panel. The committee has been asked to submit a report within a week.
Besides the deaths, over 40 people were injured in the incident while 10 others are still missing.
Gazipur district administration, Fire Service and the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments have launched separate investigations into the fire.
The fire at the five-storey factory building of Tampaco Foils broke out early on Saturday after a boiler exploded, some officials said.
Some others blamed a leakage in the gas line for the fire.
