Uninterrupted Power Supply Not Possible Right Now: Nasrul

EB Report

The state minister for Power Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid says, supplying uninterrupted power won’t be possible right now as there is inadequate supply and transmission line and some of the larger capacity power plants couldn’t come yet into production for some reasons.

The state minister stated in such a way on Monday while he was talking to the newspersons at the secretariat. The whole country has been suffering from very frequent load-shedding for the last couple of days in the scorching heat of the sun and addressing this issue the state minister said that, the overall power supply situation of the country would jsut get better before the holy month of Ramadan but the crisis won’t end fully.

He also said that, the country’s overall power supply situation would reach to a satisfactory level within the next three years. He made out, the lack of adequate transmission lines in the country’s power supply system and some unwanted operational delay in getting the promised financing from the Chinese government in some power projects are some instances behind the delay. The country might need another 3-4 years to overcome all these issues to reach the milestone of uninterrupted power supply.

Nasrul Hamid pointed at the recent collapse of the transmission line of Ashuganj-Sirajganj has caused the recent mass power outage in the country’s southwest and northern part. The collapsed transmission line would take 6-7 months to get fixed but the power supply situation in the affected areas would get better within the next 4-5 days, he stated.

Replying to a question that says, ‘how would the concerned authority would make the power situation normal within 4-5 days while it might take 6-7 months to repair the fallen transmission line?’ asked by a newsperson the state minister answered saying that, the power plants of the country’s northern and western part that were under maintenance would restart their operation within the next 4-5 days.

Nasrul Hamid highlighted at the dynamics and change in the country’s power consumption pattern saying that, the power demand rises to some 12,000 MW while it’s too hot out there which again suddenly drops to 4,000 MW at the time of rainfall. He added as an instance that, to be safe-sided the power generation capacity would have to be at least 20,000 MW while the country’s power demand would be just 12,000 MW.
