The World Meteorological Day is being observed in Bangladesh today like other countries in the world highlighting the huge contribution that National Meteorological and Hydrological Services make to the safety and well-being of society.
The theme of this year is “Climate knowledge for climate action”, that provides an opportunity to take stock of the climate knowledge built in the last decades as an essential base to support the path towards more ambitious action to address climate change and climate variability.
Every year the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and its 191 member states and territories including Bangladesh observe this day to remember the WMO establishment on that date in 1950.
To mark the day, Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has chalked out various programmes across the country, said a press release.
An exhibition of meteorological instruments and a documentary film on related issues will be shown at BMD headquarters for public.
A technical session also conducted by the Officer’s Association of the BMD.
Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television will broadcast special discussion programmes separately considering the significance of the day.
Moreover, the operational units and Radar stations of Dhaka, Cox’s Bazar, Khepupara, Rangpur and Moulvibazar will remain open for the public.
