EB Desk

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has declared a war on corruption in the power sector at a function recently.
“If 10 per cent of corruption can be cut from the current level, the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) will be able to save a lot. On the other hand, the BREB can save Tk 6.0 billion (600 crore) by cutting the  systems loss,” said the junior minister while speaking as the chief guest at the General Managers’ Conference of the BREB.
BREB Chairman Major General Moinuddin, Director General of Power Cell Mohammad Hossain and the members of BREB also spoke on the occasion. General managers of 77 Palli Bidyut Samitis (PBSs) attended the conference.
The junior minister said that corruption could be controlled by installing pre-paid meters. The move could also aid load management and collections. “There is no shortage of funds for procuring meters,” he gave assurance.
Commending the role of BREB, he said, “BREB is creating history by supplying power to lakhs of people every month. Because of your hard work, now people don’t face the problem of red tape while taking power connections.”
