BD To Import 100 MW More From Tripura: Decision Finalized

Bangladesh has finalized the decision to import 100 MW more power form
Tripura. The ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral resources has
confirmed the news by a press release.

The decision was finalized in a bilateral meeting between the two
country’s power divisional personnel that held on last Wednesday.

Nasrul Hamid, the state minister for Bangladesh’s Power, Energy and
Mineral resources and Piyush Goyal, the Indian state minister for
Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy and Mines led their respective
countries in that meeting. Piyus Goal was invited to attend the
upcoming “Bidyut Saptaha-2016” program as the special guest.

In that meeting, the participants discussed on various power and trade
related topics including updating the framework of the Trans-Boundary
Cooperation in the South Asian Power Sector, importing electricity
from Bhutan, scheduling the upcoming tri-nation meeting of
Bangladesh-India-Bhutan, outcomes of the 11th JSC meeting and other
related topics.

An initiative of commencing a technical and financial feasibility
study is about to be taken by the tri-nation authority to import
electricity from Bhutan. Regarding this issue, Piyush Goyal said that,
his country will always accompany Bangladesh.

Nasrul Hamid thanked the Indian state minister for being positive in
importing electricity from Bhutan through India and urged to
accelerate the process.
