Matarbari Project Will Protect Public Interest: Tawfiq-E-Elahi

Matarbari of Maheshkhali, Cox’sbazar is now occasionally known as the
next power generation hub of the country. In fact, the Matarbari
project is the single largest project in the history of Bangladesh in
terms of investment and power-hub utility support. The government has
taken necessary steps to make this site as a one-stop destination for
exclusive tourism, Export Processing Zone (EPZ), coal-fired power
plant, special economic zone.

Dr. Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury BB, the Energy Adviser to the Prime
Minister has paid a visit to the Matarbari project site on this
Friday. He also headed a delegation comprising of high officials from
both the Bangladesh and Japan’s government as well as a delegation
from Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) while visiting the
site.

While visiting the area, Dr. Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury said that, the
government wouldn’t do anything that goes against the interest of the
mass people. The project would be completed in accordance with the
direction of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he added.

The helicopter that carried the delegation to the project site landed
at a helipad made at the site at sharp 12 PM local time. The team had
a dialogue session right after their site visiting.

Nasrul Hamid, the state minister for Power, Energy and Mineral
Resources, Ashekullah Rafique, member of parliament, Abul Kalam Azad,
the principal secretary to the Prime Minister, Monowar Islam, Dr.
Mozammel Houque Khan, Admiral Nijar Uddin OSP, AKM Shahidul Haque, IGP
of the Police were among the Bangladeshi delegation. HE Masato
Oatanavi, the Japanese ambassador to Bangladesh, Miki Htaida, the
chief representative of JICA in Bangladesh were among the 18 member
delegation.
