Another drilling rig will be added to the fleet of the Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company (Bapex) in February, 2014.
To gear up the activities of drilling oil and gas, Awami League government has so far purchased three drilling and work-over rigs.This would be the sixth rig for the Bapex. In August, 2012, the Bapex signed a deal with Chinese Honghua Petroleum Equipment Company Ltd for procurement of the 1500 Horse Power Drilling Rig. The Bapex will procure the rig at a cost of Tk 211 crore.
The government has so far procured VFD Type Trailer Mounted Work-over Rig having working capacity of 250 tonnes and vertical drilling capacity of 3000 tonnes, the 2000 HP AC-AC, VFD Type Drilling rig with capacity up to 7000 tonnes during the tenure of the Awami League-led government.
It had also procured the IDECO H-1700 (Mechanical) France made capacity 5200 tonnes, IPS Cardwell Gardner Denver E-1100 (Electrical DC-DC) USA made with capacity 4500 tonnes and the P-80 Work-Over Rig (Mechanical) Rumanian of capacity 6000 tonnes.
