The government on 13th March decided to stop gas supply to all fertiliser factories in the country, except for Jamuna Fertiliser Factory, during the ongoing Boro cultivation and the 2014 World Twenty20.
The decision was taken keeping in mind the increased demand for gas in power generation, particularly for the increased use in irrigation and for the preparation of the T-20 World Cup.
“We have no other options but to shut down fertiliser factories for some time to ensure gas supply to power plants,” Mohammad Hussain Monsur, chairman of the state-owned Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation, said. Today we have asked all seven, except one, fertiliser factories to close down for a month.” he said.
The World T20 will feature 16 teams and starts on March 16 with the final on April 6.
