First unit of India s Kudankulam NPP reaches 50pc of its capacity

Russia built first power unit of the Kudankulam NPP in Tamil Nadu of India has successfully reached 50pc of its installed production capacity recently. The electricity load of the unit at the moment is 420 MW.
The power unit was connected to national grid on October 22 with 75MW of production and synchronization was successful. The unit will attain its 100pc of production in phases under strict supervision of Russian and Indian experts.
Construction of Kudankulam NPP is carried out under technical assistance of Russia in accordance with the intergovernmental agreement signed in 1988 and supplemented in 1998. Customer and plant operator is the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL).
Construction of the second power unit of the first phase is in its final stage. India and Russia have practically completed necessary preparations for construction of two more units of the second phase of Kudankulam NPP.
The Kudankulam NPP is considered to be one of the state-of-the-art nuclear power projects in the world.
