Govt targets to award LNG terminal as early as possible

The government is going to complete the process of awarding the LNG terminal, by June next at Moheshkhali Island in Cox’s Bazar to overcome acute gas shortage from next year.
Petrobangla Chairman Hossain Monsur said, We have targeted to award the terminal by June this year and hopeful of setting up the terminal within 18 months after award. He said, the prime minster ordered me to complete the project immediately.
The officials of Petrobangla said, the government has already started negotiation with Excelerate Energy-Astra Consortium regarding the government priority project.
The EMRD will sit with the Excelerate Energy-Astra Consortium over the issue today (Sunday). The company has already confirmed financing for the infrastructure of the project without credit support, the Petrobangla official said, adding that the company sought sovereign guarantee.
The Excelerate Energy-Astra Consortium seeks to realise the installation cost in 15 years by charging $0.39 for processing each million cubic feet of gas and agreed in principal to transfer it without further charge, Petrobangla official said.
State-owned Petrobangla shortlisted Bermuda-based Golar LNG Energy, US-based Astra Oil and Excelerate Energy Consortium, South Korea’s Samsung C&T Corporation and India’s Hiranandani Electricity Private Limited for building the floating LNG terminal following a bidding process in December 12, 2011.
