Restriction in GAS use

No GAS for CNG and Captive

Mohiuddin Miah

Government starts to reduce gas use. From now, GAS will not supplied
in CNG stations and captive power. Recently it was verbally informed
by the government that, GAS will not supplied also for domestic use.
In a meeting at prime minister’s office took the decision to not
supply GAS in CNG stations.

By this decision, it was ensured that unproductive sector will get a
lesser amount of GAS. From now gas will be used only in power sectors
and productive sectors. This decision was taken because of declining
gas reserves. Gas production will decrease in next few years. Then we
have to depend on import.
Source informs, ‘54 CNG station will not get gas connection though
they have the commitment. Existed CNG stations will not get the
opportunity to escalation their demand. By this decision, government
stops gas use in CNG as well as conversion vehicles into CNG. Only
existing converted vehicle will get CNG.’
CNG station owner make claim of gas connection for long time according
to commitment. Many owners proclaim that, they import some instrument
after getting the assurance.
Government takes initiatives to import bottle gas for eco-friendly
fuel for new vehicles. Already, vehicles has started to use bottle gas
in the city for experiment. Its cost is less than CNG. For this reason
initiative has been taken to more use of bottle gas for vehicles.
Few years earlier, the high-level committee of fuel department
recommended, ‘we should start decrease gas use in unproductive sectors
gradually. Best use can be ensure by using gas in productive sectors.
Several time Countries Energy experts did the same recommendation.
State minister of power Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said
to Energy Bangla, ‘gradually we will stop gas use in vehicle.
Initiatives are taken to increase use of bottle gas for vehicle.
Non-government entrepreneurs are doing this. We will help them.’
Hamid added, ‘we take decision not to supply gas in CNG and gradually
in domestic use also. From those two sector we can reduce 18% gas use.
We will reserve those gas for industries and future security. Power
generation is increased. Industries don’t need to generate electricity
for them. So, gradually their gas connection will be cut off. Beside
this LNG is imported as an alternative of gas.’
31.31 TCF gas is discovered in country. From this 20 TCF are confirmed
and 7 TCF are possible reserve. 13 TCF gas are already used. At
present 800 BCF (AVG) gas are used in every year. If this continue gas
will finishes in next 8 year and extra 8 years for possible reserve.
But, if gas extraction increases reserve will finish sooner. So, in 16
years we consume our all reserves. At present 12% used in domestic and
6% used in CNG from total gas.
Professor at petroleum department in BUET M. Tamim said to the energy
Bangla, ‘though next 3 or 4 year we have gas but after that the
compression of gas will reduce. So we need to take initiatives right
now. We need to use gas in a planned way.’
Experts said, ‘gas should be supplied in some selective power plant
and industry. Most of the power plants are outdated. If those power
plants were fuel saving plants than the production will be almost
double. Most of the industries have aged boiler also. That’s why, fuel
saving boiler and power station need to be placed.’
Recently, 355 industry got permit to new gas connation and the
opportunity to escalation their demand. In future, only industrial
park will get gas connection. At present 110 industrial parks are
being made. Those industrial park will get nonstop gas and power.
A leader of, Bangladesh CNG Filling Station and Conversion Owners
Association, Jakir Hosen Noyon said to energy bangla, ‘government will
decide which one is the best use of gas. It is government’s policy.
But those who got commitment and those who import instrument
government should review their decision for them. On human ground they
should get gas connection or remission of bank loan.’

Meanwhile, last week a meeting at ministry of industry, took the
decision to give gas connection to Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient
(ACI) in munshiganj at gajaria, which is under construction. Industry
minister Amir Hosen Amu and state minister Nasrul Hamid were present
at the meeting.
