No Pipeline Gas For Domestic: Muhith

EB Report

Cooking is a huge waste of Bangladesh’s natural gas and the government acknowledges it, Finance Minister AMA Muhith has said.

“Gas is so precious a resource that there is no meaning to wasting it for making rice,” he told a discussion on Saturday.

The government has enforced measures to discourage household use of gas by refusing new connections and by proposing import of LPG cylinders.

Those against the government’s plan were left disappointed at the event at Karwan Bazar organised over National Energy Security Day.

The finance minister told, There is no point campaigning against it. Yelling won’t work because it’s just not going to happen. We thought we have a lot of gas, said Muhith. So we allowed domestic consumption. But now we are seeing that what we have is limited. It is so precious, that it is a complete waste to use it for cooking this and that. We should understand that ourselves and make others understand it as well. No gas for cooking.
