The Power Division once again is riding on a turtles back and falling short to fulfill the Annual Development Program’s (ADP) goal. Most of the projects out of total 31 ADP projects for this fiscal year have not started yet.
The power division was allotted by 1 thousand and 5 hundred 94 thousands BDT in the fiscal year of 2016-17. However, the division hardly managed to spend 2 lacs41 thousands BDT for the last four months leaving almost 938 lacs BDT unutilized.
Power division sources confirmed that, they have 4 major projects according to the ADP. Surprisingly none of the projects is initiated yet after 4 months. As of now the division could implement only 2.95 percent of the ADP while a quarter is already gone from the current fiscal year.
A senior high officials from the power division confessed that, implementing the entire ADP program is a tough job. However, the division still wishes to utilize all the allotted money and implement all the projects within the designated time frame.
Earlier, the state minister for Power Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid criticized this kind of untimely implementation of projects of the country’s power sector while. He urged to implement all the projects of the power sector within the due time-frame. He said that, any delay in project implementation would be considered as a ‘disqualification’ of the project directors.
To maintain accountability from now on he asked the project directors to submit progress reports on their respective projects every three months to ensure timely implementation of power and energy-related programs.
