More Russian nuclear power units in China expected

In the 17th meeting of Russia-China subcommittee on nuclear issues held recently, Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation – ROSATOM and China Atomic Energy Authority discussed the possibility of construction of four more power units of Taiwan Nuclear Power Project (TNPP) in China. Russian Minister for Energy Aleksander Novak expressed Russia’s interest in setting up those 5-8 units of TNPP.
Both the sides also discussed on possibility of setting up new NPPs in China with Russian VVER technology, two reactors with fast neutron BN-800 technology as well as floating NPPs.
Russia has already commissioned two power units under phase 1 of TNPP. Under phase II, 3rd and 4th units of TNPP are being built with VVER-1000 reactors, each with 1060MW capacity. Both the reactors are expected to be launched by 2017.
