Shahbazpur’s Nunmber 4 Well Resumes Gas Production

EB Report

The workover on Shahbajpur gas field’s no. 4 well was completed and the production has resumed from that well. The state-owned Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (BAPEX) was successful to resume the trial production at 9 AM on Wednesday, said the BAPEX General Manager and Company secretary, Mohammad Ali.

The well was initially drilled by the Russian Gazprom International at an approximate cost of BDT 185 crore. The well its started production on May, 23 of last year. However, after 8 months of operation, the well started spouting water and sand in a significant quantity resulting in a suspension of gas production on January 28th this year.

BAPEX then came up with an independent solution and used its own rig, materials, technology and personnel to workover on that well and it worked! BAPEX is hopeful about producing around 20-25 mcf of gas daily from that well.

According to the data from Petrobangla, the Shahbajpur gas field has a total stock of 390 bcf gas. Tow power plant units with a capacity of 25 MW and 34.5 MW respectively are operated by the gas supplied from this field.

The gas field of Shahbajpur, which is situated at the Bhola district was discovered in 1993. The very first well was drilled in the same year it was discovered and it was finished in 2005. The drilling for the second well started in 2007 and ended in 2008. Third and fourth well were drilled in 2015.
