State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu said the gas supply trough pipeline in city and adjacent areas would be discontinued.
Instead of that, LP gas would be available for cooking.
The minister made the remarks at his office in secretariat on Monday.
Government will not approve new connection and the prevailing connections would rather be removed within a short time, the minister added.
According to the distribution condition of all six gas distribution companies, the country faces gas shortage. They give priority to supply gas for producing power and fertilizers, but fail to fulfill the demand of gas supply throughout the year.
The government had several times stopped giving new connection in houses. Now, it is planning to stop gas supply though pipeline permanently, he added.
